Ford will recall over 390,000 2004-2006 Ranger pickup, all of which were built in North American factories. The recall includes 361,692 vehicles in the US, 29,334 in Canada, 303 in emerging markets, 54 in Asia, and 1 in South America.
The pickups contain driver side Takata airbag inflators that could rupture in a crash.
The faulty parts killed a Ranger driver in an accident in South Carolina on December 22, 2015. Investigators have linked the rupturing inflators to a total of ten deaths worldwide, including nine in the US.
Ford dealers will replace the driver side airbag inflator. Owners should receive notification by mail during the week of February 22.
Ford previously recalled the 2004-2006 Ranger to replace the passenger side airbag inflators. The company also announced plans in November to drop Takata as an airbag supplier in future vehicles.
