Miss Cherokee 2014-15 applications now available online
Junior Miss Cherokee, Little Ambassador applications also available
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Applications are now available for the 2014 Miss Cherokee Leadership Competition.
“Miss Cherokee is a role model for Cherokee youth and serves as an ambassador for our people and culture to ensure our traditions are being represented with respect,” said 2013-14 Miss Cherokee Julie Thornton, of Gore. “Being Miss Cherokee is a wonderful and exciting experience for young women.”
For eligibility requirements and required documents, download the packet at http://www.cherokee.org/Services/Education/CherokeeAmbassadors.aspx. Applications are also available at the Cherokee First desk or in Education Services in the W.W. Keeler Complex in Tahlequah. Applications must be postmarked no later than Friday, July 11. Hand-carried applications will not be accepted.
Miss Cherokee contestants must be between the ages of 17 and 22 on Aug. 23, not have previously served as Miss Cherokee and be a Cherokee Nation tribal citizen living in the 14-county tribal jurisdiction.
Applications for Junior Miss Cherokee Leadership Competition and Little Cherokee Ambassador Competition are also available on the website, with deadlines of July 23 and July 25, respectively.
To run for Junior Miss Cherokee, contestants must be between the ages of 13 and 18, be a Cherokee citizen and reside within the 14-county tribal jurisdiction. For the Little Cherokee Ambassador Competition, one girl and one boy are selected from each of three age groups: 4-6 years, 7-9 years and 10-12 years. Candidates must be a Cherokee citizen and live within the 14-county tribal jurisdiction.
The Miss Cherokee competition will be held August 23; Junior Miss Cherokee Competition held August 16; and Little Cherokee Ambassador Competition held August 9.
