TULSA, Okla. – Families looking for short day trips throughout Spring Break can enjoy free admission to the Cherokee Nation’s museums in Tahlequah, March 19-23.
The tribe is also offering each student, 18 years of age and younger, a free Jr. Cherokee Compass, a guidebook that provides guests with an adventure-based cultural experience by making the museum even more exciting. The interactive guidebook includes fun trivia, scavenger hunts and puzzles targeted at providing educational highlights at each museum.
Free museum entry is available at the following locations:
Cherokee National Supreme Court Museum, 122 E. Keetoowah St., Tahlequah, OK 74464: The museum features exhibits in three historic aspects, including the Cherokee National Judicial System; the Cherokee Advocate and Cherokee Phoenix newspapers; and the Cherokee language, with a variety of historical items such as photos, stories, objects and furniture.
Cherokee National Prison Museum, Choctaw St. and Water Ave., Tahlequah, OK 74464: The museum allows guests to experience the history of crime and punishment in the Cherokee Nation, as well as reliving the infamous Cherokee outlaw stories.
John Ross Museum, 22366 S. 530 Rd, Park Hill, OK 74451: The museum acts as a gateway to Ross Cemetery and serves as a historical site showcasing materials on Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation John Ross and history surrounding the Park Hill community.
Each location is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
