Virginia Ruth “Gina” Sweeten was born July 2, 1927, in Joplin, Missouri to Martin and Lois Marie (Warden) Flynn. She died Tuesday, January 13, 2015, in Owasso, Oklahoma, at the age of 87 years. Gina completed her secondary education in Little Rock, Arkansas, and graduated with the Little Rock High School Class of 1945. She was married May 19, 1952, in Henryetta, Oklahoma, to William Ellis Sweeten. She spent most of her working life in the family business of B & B Electric as secretary-treasurer. She was a longtime faithful member of the Church of the Firstborn in Henryetta. Gina had served as a Campfire mother to numerous girls over the years and was a guiding influence in their lives. She and Ellis had made their home in Owasso since 1979. She enjoyed a variety of pastimes including watching old Western movies, especially John Wayne. She also spent time crocheting and being outdoors working in the yard. In recent years, she enjoyed being read to by her sister-in-law, Betty Lou Sweeten.
Loving family members include: Two sons and daughters-in-law; William Ross and Lisa Sweeten, of Tulsa Mike and Amanda Sweeten, of Collinsville, OK Daughter and son-in-law; Cindy and Bryan Mangold, of Tulsa Four grandchildren; Bradley Sweeten Amber Sweeten Bryan Mangold, Jr. Brindy Mangold Seven great grandchildren; Dustin, Madison, Marissa, Elexus, Shawn, Dayton, and Haley Sister-in-law; Betty Lou Sweeten She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother, Roy Flynn Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2015, at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 16, 2015, at the Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel in Tulsa with Pastor Glenn Thompson officiating. Final resting place will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso. www.moweryfs.com
