Question:
I’ve heard I won’t be able to control my bladder after pregnancy. Is this true?
Answer:
Although some women have difficulty controlling their bladder after pregnancy and delivery, not every patient has this issue. After pregnancy and delivery, most women have some small issues with leakage, specifically if their bladder is full and they laugh, cough or sneeze. Usually there is a small amount and not something that is concerning or causes issues. However, some women have worse symptoms. Kegel exercises (or pelvic floor exercises) and keeping weight gain to a minimum will help alleviate these issues in the postpartum period.
