The Owasso Chapter, NSDAR proudly announces its winner for the Women in American History Award, Kaye Gibson.
Kaye is a long time resident of Owasso. She and her husband raised their children here. Kaye has been actively involved in the Owasso community. Leann Taylor had won the Miss Collinsville pageant and approached Kaye for assistance in preparing for the Miss Oklahoma pageant. After that, Kaye became involved in the Miss Owasso scholarship pageant for many years. Kaye’s background includes owning a store in Owasso called Gibson Girl, and she was able to help many young ladies prepare for the pageants. She and her husband were named Mr. and Mrs. Trail Days of Owasso in 1994. Kaye has been a valued volunteer and member of the Owasso Historical Society. She is one of seven who formed the historical society in 1979. She and another volunteer helped to get a mural painted on the north side of the museum building. She can be found at the museum every Wednesday. She helps others learn about the history of Owasso when they visit.
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution states “The emphasis of Women in American History is on the role of women, past and present.” Chapters in every state are encouraged to select a notable woman from their state or community to honor who has made a contribution or a difference in their communities. She may be a historical woman or a contemporary woman.
DAR is a lineage based, non-political women’s service organization, whose motto is God, Home and Country. We promote Historic Preservation, Education, and Patriotism.
Gibson Girl was located in Three Lakes Shopping Center on 86th St. from 1980 thru 1988. Owner Kaye Gibson produced many style shows and offered a charm school for local young ladies. She was also involved in the Miss Owasso Pageant for 17 years. Photo Owasso Historical Society
