In two separate instances in the morning hours of June 2nd, 2016 thieves stole purses, and other items, out of vehicles from daycares in Owasso.
The thefts were approximately 10 minutes apart, at daycares on East Broadway at 8:30AM and near the 13600 block east of 103rd St N around 8:40AM. In both cases the vehicles were only left unattended for a few short minutes, but both were also left unlocked.
It can be difficult to get a child and all the necessary items needed to go with your child into a daycare and still have hands free to lock your car door and/or hit the Fob button, but unfortunately thieves know it is difficult too!
As a reminder, never leave your vehicles unlocked, never leave your keys inside a vehicle and whether it is locked or unlocked, never leave a vehicle running. If needed a second trip to the car could be well worth the time. One extra second to lock a door could save you months of identity theft and credit headaches. Owasso Police plan on stepping up patrols around daycares in the morning drop-off and evening pick-up times.
As always if you notice anything suspicious in or around a daycare, or any other location, please call Owasso Police at 918-272-2244, or 911 in emergencies.
