Norma “Jo” West was born October 5, 1934, in Chelsea, Oklahoma, to George Burton and Jessie Lula Pearl Seely. She died Tuesday, July 17, 2018, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 83 years. Jo also known as “Sodie” was reared and educated in Chelsea where she loved to play basketball for the Green Dragons and graduated with the Class of 1953. She began as a homemaker raising her boys and didn’t work outside the home till later in life. Jo worked for Zebco as a line worker, Duffens Optical as a glasses technician and Tulsa Public Schools as a substitute teacher until retirement in 2010. She attended Grace Baptist Church in rural Sperry, Oklahoma. Jo was an avid fan of a variety of sports, especially following her favorite teams such as the Oklahoma Sooners, Oklahoma City Thunder, and the Oakland Raiders. She particularly enjoyed watching March Madness, picking her favorite teams to win. She also enjoyed sewing and baking but none of that compared to fishing. Regardless if she caught something or not she could set on a creek bank from daylight to dark.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Denny Seely, Glyndola Barnes, George B. Seely, Jr., Bobbie Seely, and Edna Hartness.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2018, at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Funeral will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 20, 2018, at the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel in Owasso. Serving as casket bearers will be Mike Seely, Freddie Seely, Kevin West, Gary Stringfellow, Dale Elliott, and Larry Elliott. Graveside service will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday afternoon at the Chelsea Cemetery in Chelsea, Oklahoma. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso.
