Vernon Walter Lewis was born May 8, 1928, in Howe, Oklahoma, to Walter Vernon Lewis and Cordia Pearl McCauley. He died Sunday, August 4, 2024, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, at the age of 96 years. Vernon completed his secondary education in Howe, Oklahoma, and was a graduate of Howe High School. He continued his education attending Carl Albert State College in Poteau, Oklahoma.
Vernon spent most of his professional career as the owner and operator of Vernon Lewis Lumber Company in Collinsville, Oklahoma. He was a strong man of faith and was an active member of Owasso First Assembly of God. He served as a deacon, taught Sunday School, and was involved with nearly every committee or board within the church. He also served many years as a board member with the Verdigris Valley Electric Cooperative in Collinsville. Vernon enjoyed a variety of pastimes, especially woodworking. He was an excellent cook and could make a great apple pie in a paper bag. He was also fond of his role of “Grandpa” to his grandchildren.

Stepdaughter; Tina Rene Morgan, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma
Stepson; Timothy Glenn Morgan, of Adamsville, Alabama
Daughter-in-law; Marilyn Jo Lewis, of Bartlett, Tennessee
Granddaughters; Dr. Kylie Lane Lewis and husband Joe, of Georgia
Kasey Renee Richardson and husband Marcus, of Bartlett, Tennessee
And a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Cordia Lewis, wife, Neoma Lewis, daughter, Kathy Lewis, son, Kenneth Lewis, grandson, Justin Lewis, and brother, Lawrence Lewis.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Owasso First Assembly of God with Pastor Robert Polvado, Pastor Bruce McCarty, and Dr Sarah McCoy speaking. Final resting place will be at Howe Cemetery in Howe, Oklahoma.
