More than 6,700 Cherokee children to receive gift cards for new coats
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — With colder temperatures quickly approaching, more than 6,700 Cherokee children will soon receive a $50 Stage gift card to use toward purchasing a brand-new coat.
“We can help Cherokee families ease the burden of expensive coats for their children this winter and make sure our youngest citizens stay warm as we move into the coldest part of the season,” said Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Bill John Baker.
The 6,764 gift cards are being distributed to children who received $100 gift cards earlier this year to purchase clothes for the new school year. The coat program is an extension of the clothing assistance program run by Cherokee Nation Human Services.
Parents and children will be able to pick up their gift card from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the respective locations:
· Nov. 1 – Will Rogers Health Center, 1020 Lenape Dr., Nowata
· Nov. 4 – Catoosa Indian Child Welfare Office, 750 S. Cherokee Suite H, Catoosa
· Nov. 5 – Jay Community Center, 429 S. 9th St., Jay
· Nov. 6 – Sallisaw Indian Child Welfare Office, 1450 Carson Rd., Sallisaw
· Nov. 7 – Stilwell Human Services Office, Third & Oak St., Stilwell
· Nov. 8 – W.W. Keeler Complex, 17675 S. Muskogee, Tahlequah
