Question:
Do prenatal vitamins need to be taken ONLY during pregnancy or can they help a woman who is trying to get pregnant?
Answer:
Prenatal vitamins can be taken at any time during a woman’s life to get the general health benefits of a multi-vitamin. They should be used prior to pregnancy as well. For example, take them when you are trying to get pregnant so that you have plenty of folic acid in your system to prevent neural tube defects like spina bifida, which can occur before you know you are pregnant.
