Question: Since entering menopause, I am starting to see one or two coarse hairs on my chin. Is there a way (other than plucking) to prevent or minimize the facial hair problem?
Answer: Abnormal hair growth is very common after menopause and there are a few treatment options to address this. First, there is an old generic medication, Spirinolactone, that blocks testosterone receptors and helps prevent abnormal hair growth. There is also a new facial cream that is available by prescription named Vaniqa that is used for abnormal facial hair growth, but you may find it to be expensive. Finally, you may want to consider laser hair removal which can be done with Dr. Mark Callery here at Utica Park Clinic in Owasso.
