Betty Joyce Darnell was born July 1, 1936, in Vinita, Oklahoma, to Herman Clead and Susie Elizabeth (Bailey) Miers. She died Monday, December 29, 2014, in Owasso, Oklahoma, at the age of 78 years. Betty was reared and educated in Vinita, Oklahoma, and graduated with the Vinita High School Class of 1954. She was married June 4, 1960, in Vinita, to the love of her life, Joe Darnell, also of Vinita. Betty enjoyed many happy years at home with their two daughters, followed by a successful career of 27 years as a church secretary for various Baptist churches in the Tulsa area. She was a longtime faithful member of Owasso First Assembly of God. She enjoyed a variety of pastimes including crocheting, reading, cooking, and driving 78,000 miles vacationing with her family. Betty was especially gifted with hospitality and ministering through writing cards and letters. She was a truly amazing woman.
Loving family members include: Her husband of over 54 years; Joe, of the home Two daughters and sons-in-law; Vivian and Roger Strain, of Owasso Mary and Wes Johnson, of Oklahoma City Two grandsons; Adam and David Strain Sister and brother-in-law; Barbara and Jim Kersey, of Tulsa Niece; Charlotte Lamb, of Wichita, Kansas.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 1, 2015, at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 2, 2015, at Owasso First Assembly of God with Pastor Bruce McCarty officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Pheasant Hill Cemetery in Vinita.
