Bun Lee Wright was born October 14, 1936, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, to Robert Burton Wright and Lois Lena Martin Wright. He died Friday, October 28, 2022, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 86 years. Bun completed his secondary education in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and graduated with the Tahlequah High School Class of 1954. He was married April 10, 1955, in Tahlequah to Joyce Brown. Bun continued his education at Northeastern State University where he earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree and then his Master’s Degree in Education. His first teaching assignment was in “speech” at Alice Robertson Elementary School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He remained there for 11 years. He became an Assistant Principal at Lowell Elementary/Junior High School for two years. For the next twelve years he served as Principal at Addams Elementary, before returning to Robertson Elementary School for the next five years. Bun took early retirement from Tulsa Public Schools in 1987 after 30 years of service. He loved the children as well as their parents, and they loved him as well.
Bun was a very loving and caring person. He respected and loved his mother very much. During the last nine years of her life, while she resided in the nursing home, he visited her daily, reading her a devotional, talking about things that brought her fond memories, and keeping her up to date on the developments and accomplishments of her grandchildren.
He enjoyed a variety of pastimes, especially traveling. He and Joyce particularly enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Australia, and Alaska.
Bun was a strong man of faith, a Christian, and a wonderful husband, devoted father, and fond of his role as “Grandpa” to his grandchildren. He was a certified lay leader in the Methodist Church and taught a Sunday School class at Epworth United Methodist Church for over 30 years. He and Joyce had made their home in Owasso, Oklahoma, since 1998, and were faithful members of Central Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lois Wright
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel in Owasso with Pastor Kevin Laufer officiating. Serving as casket bearers will be Tim Gramly, Tom Weldon, Ed Hyde, David Gaede, David Kelsey, Richard Hall, and Leon Shade. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 Wednesday afternoon at the Tahlequah City Cemetery in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. The family requests memorial contributions be made in Bun’s name to the Children’s Program of Central Baptist Church, 9001 North 145th East Avenue, Owasso, Oklahoma, 74055. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso.
