This time of year can become a little overwhelming so we put this together to maybe help things run a little smoother!

Senior Personal Ads through May 1

From the OHS yearbook department: Senior Personal Ads are available now through May 1. Informational pamphlets were made available to seniors several weeks ago. If you have not seen one and are interested, we will be happy to send you one.  Contact Mrs. Bownman at kresta.bowman@owasso.k12.ok.us.

2014 Senior Activities and Calendar

The following is a TENTATIVE list of important activities, dates and times for the 2014 seniors. Questions should be directed to the Senior Class Sponsors, Mrs. Beeson and Ms. McGonigle.

Senior Fees:  Senior fees pay for the Senior class t-shirt (if paid by October 1; however, if we have enough interest, we may place a second order for senior t-shirts), Senior picnic, Senior Appreciation Day, Class of ’14 picture on the football field (wearing senior class t-shirt), Mr. and Miss OHS, Senior Talent Show, Senior Awards, Commencement, Grad Bash, and Grad Bash t-shirt.  See Ms. McGonigle in Room 123 to pay Senior fees BEFORE OR AFTER SCHOOL ONLY. If you have questions about senior fees or a financial need, please contact the senior sponsors, Ms. McGonigle and Mrs. Beeson, or Mr. Roberts.


Mr. and Miss OHS:  The Mr. and Miss OHS assembly will honor twenty outstanding young men and women of the class of 2014. The evaluation and selection of these Seniors is based upon their participation in school activities, GPA, and a popular vote by the Senior class. Parents are invited to attend. Special seating is reserved in the center section of the auditorium for parents.

Senior Picnic:  This event is held at the high school football field. Inflatable games, music and various other activities are provided. School lunch will be provided outside at the regular cost. Parents are encouraged to volunteer to help at this event.

Senior Talent Assembly:  This is a special entertainment assembly put on by Seniors for the Senior class only. Videos, skits, musical performances of any kind, spoofs, and tributes to the class of 2014 are welcome to audition. Seniors wanting to perform in the assembly must attend tryouts and a mandatory dress rehearsal. No underclassmen allowed.  Parents are invited to attend.

Senior Awards Assembly:  Seniors will be honored and recognized for their achievements at OHS. The Awards Assembly is held in the PAC, and parents/family are invited to attend. NOTE: All Seniors are REQUIRED to attend, remembering that since you are honoring your classmates, this is a dress your best event.

Senior Appreciation Day Practice: Seniors will practice for Appreciation Day in the gym the Thursday before the event. We will start practice at 10:00 A.M. Students will practice how to line up and where to enter/exit the gym on Sunday. Seniors will be reminded of what to wear at this time. Also, if there are special seating needs, please alert Mr. Roberts at this time. Senior Appreciation Day Seniors will appear in cap and gown as a group for the first time at Senior Appreciation Day. The Pride of Owasso will be together as a group for the final time as they perform the traditional “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” Senior Appreciation Day was formerly recognized as Baccalaureate. Please note that the area behind the speaker’s state is OFF-LIMITS to spectators. Girls: do not bring purses because you will not be allowed to carry them during the program.  NO PARENTS ALLOWED IN THE COMMONS WHERE SENIORS ARE ASSEMBLING PRIOR TO THE PROGRAM!

Commencement Practice: We will practice for commencement Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. at ORU Mabee Center. Practice lasts approximately two hours.  THIS IS REQUIRED FOR ALL SENIORS: NO EXCEPTIONS. Also, if you have special seating needs for family, please alert Mr. Roberts at this time.

Commencement: Commencement will be the final achievement for the class of 2014. It is a tribute to the accomplishments of each Senior.

 

NOTES FOR FAMILIES:

 

  • Please respect the dignity and importance of this occasion.
  • Please do not bring small children to commencement.
  • No noisemakers of any kind will be allowed in the Mabee Center.
  • Gates open at 5:30 p.m., and commencement begins at 7:00 p.m. No seats reserved before this time, and any reserved seats must be surrendered fifteen minutes prior to the start of commencement.
  • Upon entering, families may “save” only three seats.

 

NOTES FOR SENIORS: 

 

  • ANY SENIOR WITHOUT CAP AND GOWN ALONG WITH PROPER DRESS CODE WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN SENIOR APPRECIATION DAY OR COMMENCEMENT!!! Please contact Ms. McGonigle, Mrs. Beeson, or Mr. Roberts if you have a financial need. 
  • Appropriate behavior before and during commencement is required.
  • Grad Bash: This is an all-night (11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.) lock-in held at OHS following commencement. All Seniors must pay their Senior fees to attend. Parents are strongly encouraged to volunteer at this event. (See list of Senior activities for meeting dates.) Music, inflatable games, casino, hypnotist, caricaturists, basketball, all-you-can-eat buffet, karaoke, photo booth are all provided to those Seniors who have paid their fees. See fee section for questions. Students may leave early only by checking out through an adult calling home to their parents.  

 

Other Senior Info: Finals: Seniors will be required to take FINAL EXAMS on May 29 and May 30. Behavior: Unacceptable behavior at any of the aforementioned Senior events, especially Senior Appreciation Day and Commencement, will NOT be tolerated. Students who misbehave will be dealt with immediately. Any student demonstrating unacceptable behavior at a previous event will not attend GRAD BASH, along with any further punishment seen fit by administration. Unacceptable behavior will be defined by the administration, and school policies are always in effect.

Special Seating: Any family requiring special seating must contact Mr. Roberts ASAP prior to the event.

Dress Code: Required dress for Senior Appreciation Day and Commencement: GIRLS: Dress, skirt, or slacks, and dress shoes.  BOYS: Collared dress shirt in a light color; a tie is required. Dress slacks and dress shoes.  See Mrs. Beeson or Ms. McGonigle for any questions regarding dress code.

Senior Packet: Seniors can pick up their final packets in the counseling office in mid-June. Packets will contain diploma, grade card, commencement program, and any other items that need to be given to the Senior. No packets will be distributed to Seniors owing money until that money has been paid to the appropriate office. The counseling office is open 7:30-11:30 A.M. and 12:30-2:00 P.M.
