This weekend I saw something I didn’t think I would ever see in Owasso….a hungry child, in fact three of them. An older sister around 10 taking care of 2 younger siblings with no adults around. She was offering to clear off your table for you at a local fast food restaurant. When she did she would gather up any uneaten food and put it in a bag on her table. She sat and watched while people ate, waiting to see if there was something she could gather. When I caught on to what she was doing, I went up to talk to her. She quietly said her mother was working and there was nothing for them to eat at home and her siblings were hungry. I bought them all a kids meal and watch their eyes light up. I also purchased a gift card that would get them a couple more meals each when they needed it. The restaurant also kicked in some free meal cards. I got the biggest hug I think I have every received, and left there both happy and heartbroken. That said, I felt that I must try to do something if I could, and in turn we are doing a kids food drive. If you can help it would be so appreciated.
