Preliminary information from the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety shows 50 traffic-related fatalities in September 2016, compared to 57 confirmed fatalities in the same month last year.
Some 46 of the fatality victims were Oklahoma residents.
The number of fatalities on each type of roadway: U.S. highway, 16; state highway, 15; interstate highway, 6; city street, 6; county road, 4; turnpike, 3.
Some 27 of the fatality victims were drivers; 10 were motorcycle operators; eight were pedestrians; five were passengers.
The daily fatality numbers include 10 deaths on Sundays; five on Mondays; seven on Tuesdays; four on Wednesdays; six on Thursdays; 12 on Fridays; six on Saturdays. There were three days in the month of September with no reported fatalities.
There were 10 female victims and 40 male victims.
Five of the victims were age 20 or younger. The 21- to 25-year-old age group had the most fatalities with eight, followed by the 26- to 30-year-old age group and the 71- to 75-year-old age group, each with six.
Oklahoma County led the state with a total of seven fatalities, followed by Tulsa County with five.
Some 58.6 percent of those who died in traffic collisions were not wearing safety belts at the time of the crash.
