Reverend James Burton Shafer was born August 8, 1926, in Celina, Texas, to Charles Shafer and Oma Denison Shafer. He went to be with his Lord, December 2, 2022, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 96 years. James grew up and graduated from Carrollton, Texas. He served his country honorably with the United States Navy. He worked for Ford Motor Company until he retired. He later became a Baptist preacher in The Cedar Creek Lake area in Texas.

Memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Fellowship Baptist Church in Texas with nephew Tim Chapman and Brother Rivera officiating. Burial will be held 11:15 a.m. on December 20, 2022, at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
