Jimmy Wayne Greene, resident of Owasso, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013, in Tulsa at the age of 68. Jimmy was born July 28, 1944, at Ft. Smith, Arkansas, to Charles Emery and Nellie (Keffer) Greene. Due to his father’s employment, the family lived in a variety of Oklahoma communities before moving back to Tulsa where he graduated from Webster High School in 1962. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving his country honorably, receiving his discharge in 1966. On April 24, 1969, Jimmy and Janet Kay were united in marriage at Sharpe Chapel, Tulsa, Oklahoma. To this union, three sons were born. They made their home in Tulsa until moving to Owasso in 1977. Jimmy served the people of Tulsa as a member of the Tulsa Police Department for 32 years, retiring at the rank of Captain on October 31, 1999. During the early 2000’s, he served Owasso as Chief of Police. Jimmy enjoyed the outdoors, especially deer hunting and camping and he and Janet also enjoyed traveling. Jimmy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Owasso and the Owasso American Legion.
Those that survive include his wife, Janet; sons: Jon Greene and wife Renee’ of Tulsa; Jared Greene and wife Brooke of Colorado Springs, CO; and Jeffrey Greene and wife Jennifer of Chelsea, OK. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Mckenzie, Makayla, Madison, Brynn, Mason, April, Maddox and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Phillip Greene.
Funeral services for Jimmy will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 22, 2013, in the sanctuary of the Owasso First Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Wall officiating. Burial will be at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Broken Arrow, with the Tulsa Police Honor Guard according the final rites. Visitation will be Thursday, March 21, at Mowery Funeral Service from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso.
