Eva “Joann” (Sweet) Compston was born on December 30, 1938, in Talala, Oklahoma to Orlando S. Sweet and Ethel Mae (Wofford) Sweet. She passed from this life on Saturday, April 27, 2024, in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 85 years. Joann was raised and educated in Talala and graduated as Valedictorian with the Talala High School Class of 1957. She spent most of her working life in the home raising her children, but as they got older into grade school, she worked as a realtor for Woods Realty in Owasso. Joann was a devoted wife and mother, but primarily she was a professional grandma and embraced her title as “Nana.” She was involved in church and spent many years at Sheridan Road Batist Church in Tulsa, and with Bethel Baptist Church in Owasso, where she taught teenagers in Sunday School. In her spare time, Joann volunteered with the Blue Star Mothers, worked in her garden and potted plants, and loved hosting for her family and friends which often involved a lot of cooking and baking.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Orlando and Ethel, husband, Don, and three brothers, Jimmy, Bob, and Bill.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Talala, Oklahoma with Pastor Dean Tucker officiating. Graveside service will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Talala. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso.
