Joe Robert McKisick was born July 23, 1923, in Big Cabin, Oklahoma, to George Dean and Mary E. Landrum McKisick. He died Thursday, June 13, 2019, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 95 years. Joe was reared and educated in Big Cabin, Oklahoma, where he excelled in basketball and was a graduate of Big Cabin High School. He worked on the farm and shortly after high school was drafted into the armed forces. He served his country honorably with the United States Navy during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Tripoli and the U.S.S. Guadalcanal. After his discharge he returned stateside. On July 20, 1952, in Parsons, Kansas, Joe married the love of his life, Jeanette Pickerill. They eventually settled in Catoosa, Oklahoma, where they have lived since 1965. He worked as a foundation pier and oil driller, owning and operating his business of McKisick Drilling. He was a longtime faithful member of Encounter Church in Tulsa, formerly First Foursquare Church. In his pastime, he enjoyed working the cattle on his ranch near Big Cabin. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the NBA. He was a St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan and a big fan Oral Roberts University “Titans” basketball.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2019, at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 17, 2019, at Encounter Church in Tulsa with Reverend John Arthur officiating. Serving as casket bearers will be Jarrod McKisick, Bradley Joe McKisick, Brandon McKisick, Pat Pickerill, Scott McGregor and Matt Heilman. Graveside service will be held 2:30 p.m. Monday at Oakhaven Memorial Gardens in Claremore, Oklahoma. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso. www.moweryfs.com
