John G. Ward was born August 9, 1932, in Fork Mountain, Tennessee, to Herbert Estes and Margie Mae McCartt Ward. He died Wednesday, January 11, 2017, in Owasso, Oklahoma, at the age of 84 years. John was a veteran of the armed forces having served his country honorably with the United States Army during the Korean War. He was an expert marksman and was also a prisoner of war for nearly three years. He was married October 14, 1953, in Angola, Indiana, to Dorothy Bernice West. John spent most of his working life as a data processing manager. He was faithful to his church and had served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He enjoyed a variety of pastimes including hunting, fishing, working in his garden, and horseback riding. He also enjoyed sports and had even coached Pop Warner football. He and Dorothy had made their home in Owasso since 2003. He will be remembered as a man who did so much against all odds.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, John H. Ward, Sr., granddaughter, Rachael Dobyns, and two sisters.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel in Owasso with Pastor Leonard Pirtle officiating. Serving as casket bearers will be Mike Pence, Mark Crain, Jim Gorman, Jr., John Ward, Jr., Michael Pence, Jr., and Anthony Pence, Sr. Committal service and interment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park Cemetery in Owasso. The family requests memorial contributions be made in John’s name to the Folds of Honor Foundation, 5800 North Patriot Drive, Owasso, Oklahoma, 74055 or the Disabled American Veterans, 3131 East Pine Street, Tulsa, OK 74101. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso.
