Kreative Kidz Childcare Center in Owasso may sound unfamiliar, but it’s the same organization Owasso parents have trusted since 1999. Formerly Kidz Day Out, the childcare center will still be operated by the same family, but is switching hands from Owner Brenda Spencer to her daughter Amia Homberger. Spencer says along with the name change, some aspects of the business will change, offering more options for parents to accommodate almost any childcare need. The format of drop-in care for ages 3 and up, paying only for what you need, will now include full-time care for 5 years and younger.
“Everything we did was based on an hourly rate and basically you paid for only what you used,” she says. “For example, if you needed school transportation, you paid
for the hours in the building and a separate fee for transportation. If you needed lunch or wanted a snack, it was a separate charge.”Many of the benefits parents have come to appreciate, however, will not change, including the same long-term staff and hourly pricing.

“We still offer the same hourly rates for children over the age of 3 and the same pricing still applies for school age children,” Spencer says. “This works out really well for parents of school-age kids as it usually is a lot cheaper for before and after school care. If your child only needs to be picked up two or three days a week, you are only paying for those days and not for time when they aren’t here. We have basically developed a system to meet the childcare needs for both full-time and part-time care at the best rates we can manage.”
With the addition of full-time care for younger children, there is a classroom style environment while retaining the fun play experience that was the hallmark of the drop-in center. Spencer says she is proud of the balanced approach Kreative Kidz takes, but admits it’s not for every parent or child. “We will be the first ones to tell you we are not for everyone,” she says. “We don’t try to conform to the ‘traditional’ childcare center philosophy of being a pre preschool. Our focus is on making our center a fun, safe place for kids to be, while learning through fun and play.”
If you are looking for childcare with a home-style approach, Kreative Kidz might be the place for you. “We treat our kids like they belong to us,” Spencer says. “We are now and have always been family oriented with our staff and our clients. In a nutshell, we love our kids and our families and do our very best to provide care that meets their needs at a rate we can all live with.”Kreative Kidz is located at 11510 E. 83rd St. N. (behind Federal Employees’ Credit Union). Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. For more information, visit
