L SandersLeroy Carl Sanders was born September 8, 1931, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, to Samuel Steven and Ava Electa (Johnson) Sanders. He died Wednesday, August 31, 2016, in Owasso, Oklahoma, at the age of 84 years. Leroy attended several schools before settling in Chouteau, Oklahoma, and graduated with the Chouteau-Mazie High School Class of 1950. He was a veteran of the armed forces having served his country honorably with the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was married November 12, 1954, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Rose Nell “Rosie” Hibbs. They had made their home in Owasso since 1955. Leroy spent most of his working life as a machinist and tool grinder with Rockwell International in Tulsa. He was a Christian man who served many years at Owasso First Assembly of God, was a charter member of Christ’s Church, and most recently attended Collinsville Assembly of God. He served in many capacities such as Sunday school teacher and deacon emeritus of Owasso First Assembly of God. He enjoyed spending time outdoors gardening and fishing, as well as cooking, but most important in his life was spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, James Sanders and Paul Sanders, and three sisters, Virginia Shaffer, Betty Dale, and Sylvia Sanders.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 2, 1016, at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 3, 2016, at the Owasso First Assembly of God with Pastor Jeff Bradley officiating. Serving as casket bearers will be Ryan Ford, Jordan Ford, Andy Sanders, Jesse Sanders, Marty Pierce, and Myles Davidson. Honorary casket bearers will be Vernon White and Wayne Pauley. Committal service and interment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park Cemetery in Owasso. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Gideon’s International, P.O. Box 1022, Owasso, Oklahoma, 74055. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso.
