Mary Joan Mitchell was born October 2, 1934, in Paris, Arkansas, to Fred Job and Cecilia Mary Francis Girard. She died Monday, September 24, 2018, in Owasso, Oklahoma, at the age of 83 years. Joan was reared in Paris where she attended Catholic grammar schools and graduated with the Paris High School Class of 1952. She was married August 25, 1956, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Raymon D. Mitchell (Mitch). They made their home in Owasso in 1969. Joan spent much of her working life as a homemaker and caring for her family. She was a longtime faithful member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Owasso. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed bowling, BUNCO and playing cards with her friends. Joan was an avid sports fan and loved watching her favorite sporting events. She cherished her role as Grandma Joan and spending time with her grandchildren. She found joy in her flowers, her pecan trees and her swimming pool.

Sister-in-law: Judith Girard
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Mitch, son, William Douglas Mitchell, and brother, Larry Girard.
A Rosary will be prayed 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 27, 2018, at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Owasso. Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 28, 2018, at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Owasso with Father John Grant officiating. Serving as casket bearers will be Matt Mitchell, Clint Mitchell, Mitchell Moriarty, Jake Moriarty, Tom Maslanka, and Tracy Maslanka. Committal service and interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Tulsa. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Catholic Charities, Development Office, P.O. Box 580460, Tulsa, Oklahoma, 74158-0460. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso.
