09/16/2017 – A memorial service was held at Mowery Funeral Home today, honoring Owasso K-9 officer “Beny” who retired from the force in June after 10 years of service with his partner, Officer Bobby Sordo.
Beny died a few short days after retiring.
Officers from around the area honored the Sordo family by giving a police escort to the service.
For his first 5 years of duty, Beny was the only K-9 on the Owasso Police Force, and to date is one of the longest serving K-9 officers in the state.
Beny was honored not only for his service to Owasso and the surrounding area, but search, rescue and recovery efforts after the deadly tornado’s in Moore, Oklahoma and Joplin Missouri.
Beny and Officer Sordo spent many years visiting Owasso Public School students, and giving demonstrations of his abilities.
Beny will be missed by many in our community as well as the surrounding areas.
