Question:
My mother has a history of problems with her uterus. Does that mean I will too?
Answer:
If your mother had problems with her uterus, that does not mean you will. We do see uterine fibroids in some different family groups, but that does not always happen. Fibroids are, in most cases, benign tumors of the uterus.
A patient may also experience pain from endometriosis, which occurs when tissue from the inside of the uterus escapes into the pelvic cavity. We do see endometriosis group together in families.
While you may have problems with your uterus because your mother did, it is not a guarantee.
