Sunday, February 24, 2013 9:40am: A strong upper level system is poised to impact the Southern plains on Monday. This system…currently moving through the Rocky Mountain region will strengthen as it moves southeast into New Mexico tonight. Energy associated with the upper low will increase rain chances from west to east tonight. Precipitation will remain liquid into Monday afternoon…and a low low thunderstorm potential will also be maintained through that time period. As the system progresses east…colder air wrapping in behind the low will allow a changeover to snow by late Monday afternoon across parts of Northeast Oklahoma. Areas to the north and northwest of Tulsa continue to indicate the highest accumulation potential…and the winter storm watch remains in effect for those areas.
Lesser amounts of snow are expected to the south and east overnight Monday into Tuesday. The low will quickly move to the northeast Tuesday… and snow is expected to taper off during the afternoon. Cool…but settled weather is in store for the remainder of the work week.
