RE: Threat Investigation at Owasso High School
On 02/27/2014, at approximately 9PM, the Owasso Police Department was made aware of potential threats made by a student against the Owasso High School. A student reported that she overheard a conversation between two other students earlier that day, one of whom spoke about what would happen to him if he “blew up the school”. The student reported the conversation to the school administration, who then relayed the information to the Owasso Police Department.
Owasso Officers immediately initiated an investigation, including interviewing the witness and the parties involved in the conversation. The16 year old student acknowledged making the inappropriate statements, but denied that he had any intentions to carry out the act. A search was conducted at the school as well as the residence of the student who made the inappropriate comments. No evidence was located at either location to indicate that the student planned to commit a violent act. School Resource Officers interviewed the known associates of the student, none of whom indicated that he had made any previous statements of this nature and the comments appeared to be an isolated incident.
As the investigation progressed throughout the night, it was determined that the threat was not viable. The student who made the inappropriate statements remained in the custody of his parents and criminal charges are not expected.
