The Owasso Police Department are urging residents to be on the lookout for a light/white colored older model SUV, occupied by 2 or 3 black males reportedly “casing” local neighborhoods.
On Friday, June 13th, at around 8AM, a resident of the Hillside Addition of Owasso near 114th St North and Mingo Rd observed this vehicle in what he described as “casing the neighborhood”. The same resident received a knock on his door around 9AM. When he opened his door he said a black male, wearing red shorts and a blue shirt, appeared surprised that he answered and quickly asked if the resident had any gasoline to lend. The resident directed the young man to leave and phoned police, reporting the activity as suspicious. Another young black male, wearing a white shirt and red shorts, and 3 more young black males, were present at the time. Police canvassed the surrounding areas for the vehicle but were unable to locate.
At around 1030AM, Owasso Police were dispatched to a reported burglary in progress where a resident advised she saw 2 black males, both wearing red shorts and white shirts, running out of a neighbor’s home in the Elm Creek Housing Addition near 119th E Ave and 79 St N. The males were seen carrying electronics, computer equipment, and power tools, including a large chain saw. These suspects entered an older model light or white colored SUV, driven by an additional black male, and sped off from the area. Officers again canvassed the area, but the time lapse enabled the suspects to get away. Investigators processed the burglary scene and discovered a .308 caliber hunting rifle was stolen from the home in addition to the other property mentioned. The suspects had kicked open a rear exterior door to gain entry.
Around 5PM Owasso Police responded to the New Brunswick Housing Addition, near 97th St N and Mingo Rd in Owasso, to another reported home burglary. A resident came home from work to discover one of his windows had been opened. Property, including jewelry, electronics, and several firearms, had been stolen sometime between 9AM and 5PM. In both cases no security safes were used to hold the firearms.
Because of the close proximity, all of these incidents are believed to be related. The SUV reported is possibly a light or white colored older model Jeep Cherokee. In addition, a tan compact 4dr car occupied by 2 black males was also reported to be canvassing the areas earlier in the day.
In unrelated incidents, around 8PM that evening a resident of the Coffee Creek Apartments heard a noise from outside. When he looked out his front door peephole he saw 3 white adult males, one of which had opened the apartment’s bedroom window and was entering the apartment through that window. The resident quickly began making a lot of noise from inside the apartment at which time the 3 suspects fled. Owasso Police responded and initially used a K9 to track the path of the suspects. The track ended in a nearby parking lot indicating the suspects fled in a vehicle from the area.
Also, around 4AM, in the early morning hours of June 14th, a resident in the Coventry Gardens Housing addition near 96th St N and 101st E Ave heard his garage door open. He went to investigate and spooked a man that had entered his garage. The subject ran away down the street.
After arrival, Owasso Police were unable to find any trace of the suspect.
Owasso Police urge residents to be on the lookout for these vehicles and any other suspicious activity in local neighborhoods. Please report anything out of the ordinary to Owasso Police Dispatch at 918-272-2244. For emergencies call 911
