The first whole garden work day for the Owasso Community Garden (south side of the Community Center) is scheduled for Saturday, March 9th from 9-11am in order to revitalize and prepare the entire garden for the planting season.
The Community Garden was founded in the Spring of 2011 by individuals from churches, organizations and area families with a vision to provide food for people who were food insecure. Other goals were to create a sense of community and to teach people to grow food so that they in turn are able to teach others.
The Community Garden consists of 47 – 4 x 8 raised bed gardens including an American Disabilities Act bed. Interested gardeners must complete a garden application and pay a $6 per year gardening fee at the garden orientation on Feb. 9th to reserve their bed. Fee may be paid all at once or in two installments of $3.
This year’s garden schedule will include monthly educational opportunities from local gardeners and whole garden work days every other month. Dates will be given at orientation. The first whole garden work day is scheduled for Saturday, March 9th from 9-11am in order to revitalize and prepare the entire garden for the planting season.
