Emily Anderson, 2017 Owasso High School grad, is a Top 50 student at Purdue University Fort Wayne.

04/24/2019 – FORT WAYNE, Ind.—Emily Anderson, a 2017 graduate of Owasso High School in Owasso, Oklahoma, was recently honored as being one of the Top 50 students at Purdue University Fort Wayne, located in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Top 50 recognizes students who excel not only academically and in co-curricular activities, but who also make their mark by giving back to the Purdue Fort Wayne campus and to their communities.

Emily, who earned a year of college credits while in high school, is finishing up her second of three years at Purdue Fort Wayne, where she is majoring in human services. Once she arrived on campus, she quickly immersed herself in school, work, and extracurricular activities. Multiple volunteer activities at organizations like Turnstone, Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana gave her the opportunity to connect with others in the community.

After graduating in 2020, Emily plans to enter the Peace Corps, and then she wants to pursue a career working for nonprofit organizations whose purpose is to help people. Her long-term plans include going to graduate school to get a master’s degree in public policy and then possibly working as an advocate for human service issues.

A selection committee decides who each years Top 50 will be, and in doing so, they review academics, activities, and letters of recommendation for each candidate. The chair of the Department of Human Services, Patricia Eber, Ph.D., LMFT, HS-BCP, sent the following about Emily: “I am writing to recommend, without reservation, Emily Anderson as a recipient of the Top 50 Award. Emily has a 4.0 GPA and carries a heavy academic load each semester. I can genuinely state that Emily is the most engaged student I have known in my decades at IPFW/PFW. She has an internal drive to improve situations from both a macro and micro perspective. Emily is involved on campus in College Democrats, the student Human Services Organization, Student Affairs Committee of the Faculty Senate, The Pantry, Ceramics Club, and the Campus Appeals Board (as a student member). Off campus, she is a member of the National Organization of Human Services and the Apicultural (beekeeping) Club. Emily has not merely signed up as a listed member for these activities, she is engaged in each one.”
