October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and your Owasso Fire and Police Departments will need your help with a plan to help victims and potential victims get the help they need.
According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV), On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men.
Although Owasso is one of the safest cities in Oklahoma, we are unfortunately no stranger to calls involving domestic violence.
Here’s how you can help….bring in your unused or unwanted cell phones, and we will put that device in the hands of a victim or potential victims that will only be used to call 911. Phones should be wiped clean of all personal data and returned to factory settings, and preferably donated with their chargers.
Phones will be collected at Owasso Fire Station 1 (8901 N. Garnett) and the Owasso Police Department (111 N. Main).
