07/21/2019 – Owasso Detective Ben Wolery was honored as the “Hometown Hero” at the Tulsa Drillers game on Saturday, July 20th. Ben’s family, friends, and coworkers were in attendance to help honor him for his accomplishments.
Below is the nomination submitted by Ben’s supervisor, DET LT Jack Wells:
“Ben Wolery has been a member of the Owasso Police Department for 11 years and prior to serving with the Owasso Police Department, Ben served 4 years in the US Army.
Ben was assigned to the Patrol Division for his first 8 years, during which he was a leader on his shift and a Field Training Officer. Ben was consistently recognized for his enforcement of impaired drivers by the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office. For the past 3 years, Ben has been assigned as a detective in the Criminal Investigations Division. Ben has been assigned cases involving domestic violence, violations of protective orders, sex crimes, and several general case assignments involving serious felony crimes such as arson, and assault with a deadly weapon.
Ben is an active member of a multi-jurisdictional Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) and a Coordinated Community Response Team (CCRT) which gathers to discuss protocols for Domestic Violence investigations. Ben has presented programs about “Safe Touch” to school age children throughout Owasso ensuring that children know what appropriate and inappropriate touches from others are and who to report them to, as well, Ben presents programs on Domestic Violence to churches and other organizations throughout the community. Ben does all this with a true passion and resolve to help the community.
While Ben has been serving the community, he and his wife Kelly have also cared for their son Wyatt, who was born with severe special needs.
Ben is truly a hometown hero and deserves the recognition for all he does for citizens of not only Owasso, but the entire Tulsa metro area.”
