Raymond Keith (Banjo) Postelwait, resident of Collinsville, passed from this life on Wednesday evening, May 28, 2014 at the age of 83. Raymond was born August 10, 1930 at Burrton, Kansas to Ernest Glen and Minnie (Sinclair) Postelwait. At an early age, the family moved to Stillwater, OK where he was raised and received his education, even attending Oklahoma A & M (now Oklahoma State University) for a short time. On January 8, 1951, Raymond enlisted in the United States Air Force, receiving his honorable discharge in January of 1955. On April 15, 1952, he and Joy Belle Swart were united in marriage at Hays, Kansas. Following his military service, they made their home in Tulsa until movingto Collinsville in 1964. Raymond was a “jack of all trades” and worked at various endeavors before retiring as owner of Probe Security. Raymond was a member of Freedom Church. He loved to tell stories, was a licensed pilot, and in earlier years, enjoyed talking on his CB radio.
Those that survive include his wife of 62 years – Joy; cousins Don Best and wife Donna of Owasso, Lou Gates of Fairfax, OK, George Dixon of Wooster, Ohio and Helen Shipley of Eufaula, OK and her daughters Tammy and Shelly. He is also survived by his beloved pet – Bubby. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents and a half sister Isabel Long.
Memorial services for Raymond will be in the sanctuary of Freedom Church with Pastor Andrew Rankin officiating on Monday, June 2, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Final honors will be accorded by the U.S. Air Force.
