Elmo was born and raised around Hector, Arkansas. He drove farm equipment and picked cotton. He
relocated to Tulsa around the 1950’s and went to work for Hinderliter Heat Treating, where he was
employed for 37 years. After retirement, he worked part-time at TSI Heat Treating in Sapulpa. The
family attended Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Second Presbyterian Church for many years.
He moved his family to Owasso in 1973, where they resided until Geraldine’s passing in 2001. Around
Easter of 2001, it was decided to fulfill his dream of having a piece of property for a large garden and a
cow or two. In August of that year he and his son, Jeff, purchased the 40 acre farm in Talala. Here he
was able to have his gardens and cows as he had always wished. He resided there until December 2015.
After breaking a hip in December of 2015, he was moved to the Highlands in Owasso, where he resided
until his departure here on earth.
He attended Talala Christian Church on a regular basis as his health would allow.
Elmo loved his gardens in Owasso. He grew some very large watermelons and tomatoes. He would
spend his days in the garden before going to work at Hinderliter in the evenings. Geraldine and he
would prep & can the produce from the garden and their dill pickles were the best.
Elmo also enjoyed attending the stock car races at Tulsa Speedway where he enjoyed watching and
helping Jeff with his race car. Elmo had many friends there. As his grandson, Brian, described him, Elmo
was stubborn, onery and funny but had a very big heart. Oh yes, and impatient too. You better have
been on time.
His love for his family was eternal. He cherished any time he spent with his grandkids. He actually
smiled more in his last few months and I believe it was due to seeing the kids more.
Elmo, Dad and Grandpa, will be dearly missed.
