Rowena May Smith, longtime resident of Collinsville, passed from this life on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the home of her son in Tulsa. She was 92 years of age. Rowena was born July 23, 1924 in Dewey, OK to Thomas Ray and Trudie Ellen (Tucker) Spalding. Rowena was raised and received her education in Dewey, graduating with the Class of 1942. On January 26, 1944, she and Harold Earnest Smith were united in marriage and had four children. Rowena and Harold had made their home in Collinsville since 1973. Harold preceded her in death on May 8, 2011. Rowena was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Collinsville.
Rowena is survived by daughter Trudie Wilson of Laguna Niguel, CA, daughter Judy Kimm of Hollister, MO, son James (Jim) Smith of Tulsa and daughter Sharon Carnahan and husband Barry of Richardson, TX. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. Besides her husband, Rowena was preceded by her parents and a sister Bonita DeLozier.
Rowena had many hobbies. Among those were sewing, quilting, crocheting, gardening, working in her flower beds, traveling, playing dominos, fishing and sitting around a camp fire eating s’mores.
Visitation for Rowena will be Friday, January 20, 2017 at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday January 21st at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Collinsville with Pastor Tim Prock officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at 3:00 PM Saturday at the Stokes Cemetery, Dewey, OK.
