Shirley Virginia Cox was born on March 13, 1935, in Guthrie Oklahoma to Earl Martin Deter Sr. and Gertrude Virginia Waybright Deter. She passed from this life into the arms of Jesus on Friday, April 19th, 2024 in Owasso, Oklahoma at the age of 89. Shirley was raised and educated in Guthrie and graduated with the class of ’53, along with many friends and her high school sweetheart, Blair Cox. Wasting no time, the couple married and moved to OKC and started a family. After their 3rd child they moved to Tulsa and had their 4th child. Shirley spent the first 18 years raising their family and making all their clothes. She was an excellent seamstress. She then took a job at Shell Oil Co. doing data entry for 5 years then started working at Southern Hills Country Club as their bookkeeper for the next 20 years. Shirley was a member of First Christian Church in downtown Tulsa for many years. Upon her retirement she enjoyed gardening and watching sports but most of all spending time with family.

18 Great Grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Gertrude Deter; both siblings, Earl Jr and wife, Shirley; Bobbie Gibson and husband Jim. And her precious son, Steve Cox.
