Suzanne Andrienne Montandon Riggs, resident of Owasso passed from this life on Saturday evening, June 25, 2016 at the age of 86. Suzanne was born September 11, 1929 in Paris France to Charles and Angele (Dayre) Montandon. She was raised and received her education in France, receiving her teaching certificate from the Ecole Lycee. Suzanne was a “war bride”, coming to the United States shortly before her marriage to Elton A. Riggs on February 1, 1947 in Midland, Texas. Following their marriage, they made their home in Midland before moving to Lubbock, TX, living most of her life there before coming to Owasso in 2013. Elton preceded her in death on August 26, 2014. While in Lubbock Suzanne was an active member of the First Assembly of God Church and Woodlake Assembly in Tulsa after moving to Owasso. She became a citizen of the United States in 1969 and was passionate about oil painting, crocheting, crafts and shopping. However, her greatest passion was teaching. She was a French teacher at St. Christopher’s/All Saints Episcopal School of Lubbock for 33 years where she was affectionately known as “Madame”.
Those that survive and hold many cherished memories are her children – Larry Riggs and wife Shirley of Dothan, Alabama, Betty Riggs-Gute of Plano, TX, Eddie Riggs and wife Cindy of Owasso, Denise Riggs-Hawk and husband Alan of Alcoa, TN and Yvette Riggs-Stucks and husband Bryce of Oklahoma City. Also surviving are nine grandchildren – Michelle, Tony, Andy, Grace, Kristi, Cassie, Aaron, Lynsie and Zach; as well as 14 great grandchildren and a sister Paulette Montandon. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brother Henry Montandon, and great granddaughter Audry Diana Riggs.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Funeral will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Tom Lakey officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Graceland Memorial Park Cemetery in Owasso.
