OKLAHOMA CITY (Aug. 13, 2024) – A Tulsa-area contractor is facing serious legal repercussions, including 17 counts of felony embezzlement and one count of engaging in a pattern of criminal activity, following an extensive investigation by Attorney General Gentner Drummond’s Consumer Protection Unit.
Todd Douglas Briggs, who owned and operated T Briggs Construction and Oasis Pools and Outdoor Living, was formally charged yesterday in Creek County. Briggs allegedly embezzled more than $1.2 million from 17 clients, collecting payments for home or pool construction projects that were either never completed or for which he failed to pay subcontractors.
“I am dedicated to ensuring that those who exploit hardworking Oklahomans through deceitful business practices are held accountable,” said Drummond. “I commend the diligent efforts of the attorneys, investigators, and staff in the Consumer Protection Unit as we seek justice for the affected families.”
In July 2023, Briggs informed customers that he was filing for bankruptcy, just days after receiving significant payments from several of them. This left many customers with incomplete projects and liens on their properties due to unpaid subcontractors. The affected consumers are located in Tulsa, Jenks, Broken Arrow, Owasso, Collinsville, Sapulpa, Bixby, and Beggs.
Attorney General Drummond urges anyone who believes they may have been a victim of contractor fraud to reach out to the Consumer Protection Unit at 1-833-681-1895 or visit Oklahoma.gov/oag.
