11/09/2018 – The Tulsa City County Library is celebrating the sixteenth year for their “Books to Treasure” program.
Friday morning, Laura Raphael, the Tulsa City County Children’s Services Coordinator introduced prominent children’s book illustrator Shandra Stickland to second grade students at Ator Elementary School.
Shandra spoke about the book “Please Louise” for which she was the illustrator. Shandra said was excited to learn that an illustration from this book will on all second grade students library cards.
Each second grade student was given their own copy of “Please Louise” to take home.
The book itself was written by Toni Morrison, who is an American novelist, essayist, editor, teacher, and professor emeritus at Princeton University. Morrison won the Pulitzer Prize and the American Book Award in 1988 for Beloved. The novel was adapted into a film of the same name in 1998. Morrison was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1993.
