Spread the love

01/23/2018 – Kindness goes a long way, and students and staff at a local elementary school are trying to see just how long it can go.

The “Keep the Chain Going” kindness initiative started this week at Smith Elementary in Owasso.

Principal Patrick James introduced the project to students and teachers at their Rise and Shine assembly on Friday.

James tells us students are encouraged to notice a kindness shown by others, jot that kindness down on a strip off paper and drop it in a specified box.  The kindness strips dropped in the box will eventually become a chain linked together, connecting kindness across the school.

The project is not for students to list something they did for someone else, but to write down acts of kindness that they themselves witnessed.  This could be something another student did, a teacher, support staff and so on.

Mr James said the students recite a no bullying pledge each week, and he hopes this will help keep them to that promise. He hopes this will help student not only say that pledge, make it a part of who they are and what they do.

James hopes the kindness project rubs off on his students and sticks with them in a positive way.
