Wanda Charlene Phillips, resident of Rogers, Arkansas, passed from this life on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at the Highlands of NW Arkansas. She was born January 5, 1942 at Sedan, Kansas the daughter of Virgil Leon and Charlotte Maude (Defenbaugh) Cummings. Wanda was raised and received her education in Sedan, graduating Sedan High School with the class of 1960. She later attended beauty college in Stillwater, OK. Wanda owned and operated her own salon in Yale, Oklahoma, for many years, later moving to Rogers. You could say she got her start as a beautician when she was young, fixing her mother’s and sister’s hair. For a short time, she also worked as a secretary for Bovard Supply in Tulsa. Wanda was a “people person” especially with the elderly. As a child, Wanda attended the Assembly of God, but during her adult years preferred the Baptist faith. She enjoyed listening to country music, sewing and had an artistic flair.
Those that survive include her daughter – Shannon Deadmon and husband Paris of Rogers, AR; grandchildren – Lacey Bryant and husband Jimi of Rogers, AR, Lindsey McDonald and husband Andrew of Rogers, Daniel Lewis and wife Bobbi Kay of Stillwater, OK and Nevaeh Deadmon also of Rogers. Also surviving are five sisters – Renee Fobian, Leona Pettus, Barbara Metcalf, Linda Fellers and Kathy Price; a brother Steven Cummings and other relatives and friends. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter Tonya Lynn Wilkerson.
Funeral Services will be at 11:30 AM on Friday, October 21, 2016 in the Chapel of Mowery Funeral Service with Casey Cariker officiating. Committal service and interment will follow in the Rose Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Tulsa, OK. Arrangements and services were entrusted to the Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso. www.moweryfs.com
