Epilepsy is a neurological disorder characterized by seizures. Epilepsy is one of those disorders that most people do not understand, and probably most people are not even aware that someone has the disorder.  Most people have heard the word “Epilepsy”!

About 50 million people world wide have Epilepsy and in the state of Oklahoma the number of cases is approximately 13,500!! Epilepsy is one of the oldest neurological disorders known to man.  Epilepsy is usually controlled, not cured, with medication.

There have been many famous people who have had or still have Epilepsy: Vincent Van Gogh, Sir Isaac Newton, Theodore Roosevelt, Richard Burton, Agatha Christie, George Fredrick Handel, Danny Glover, and others.

There are many different Epilepsy syndromes, each presented with its own unique combination of seizure type, typical age of onset, EEG findings, treatment and progress.

Even though November is Epilepsy Awareness Month, the Run/Walk will be held in March because March 26, is the day to wear purple for Epilepsy!
