owassohrThe City of Owasso Public Works Department did pre-treating of bridges and intersections with brine Wednesday. Brine, which is a liquid mixture of rock salt and water, has been shown to be effective in preventing ice from bonding with the road surface.  Brine is put down before a storm when the road is dry. As the liquid brine evaporates it leaves crystallized salt, which is ready to spring into action when those first flakes fall, preventing the snow from bonding to the road and then freezing.

Once precipitation begins to fall, Owasso Public Works will focus on plowing and spreading salt and sand on arterial roadways throughout the duration of the winter storm.

Public Works has three shifts scheduled to perform the snow/ice control program which will allow crews to tend to the roadways and bridges around the clock.
