The Owasso Mid-High is having a community recycling drive for aluminum cans only, on Wednesday, February 12th.
The GreenTeam will be behind the building in the parking lot ready to take your cans off your hands between the hours of 7:30am-8:30am and again from 2:30pm – 3:30pm. By donating your cans to the GreenTeam, you help them toward their goal in winning the Great American Can Roundup Contest.
The GreenTeam was started in 2010 and are responsible for raising money to complete projects around the school. They help raise awareness about being environmentally conscious and have to find ways to make the school more environmentally friendly. Students started building an outdoor classroom in 2011 behind the school and we have been raising money to place a shelter out there so classes can use the pond, trail, and gardens to teach their students about wildlife. Non-science teachers could use the classroom as a relaxing place to go to read or hold a lecture outside the stuffy, classroom setting. The GreenTeam is responsible for having the Mr. Murph containers outside to raise money for the school which has been a huge success. They recycle school-wide every Wednesday and Mr. Murph is open to the community.
The GreenTeam was awarded a $10,000 grant in 2011 which helped make a lot of what they have done around the school possible. The have also partnered with local scout troops who have helped them complete projects
