Question:
I’m trying to decide if I should have my daughter receive the Gardasil vaccination. Is it still recommended for all young women or have recommendations changed?
Answer:
Gardasil is a three-shot vaccine series that protects against the two most common HPV virus types that cause cervical cancer and the two most common HPV virus types that cause genital warts. The vaccine is given over the course of six months and there is no booster required. You also do not have to restart the series if it has been longer than the recommended interval between doses.
Gardasil is recommended to all young ladies age 9-26, regardless of sexual activity. It is better to have your daughter protected by the vaccine before she may become sexually active and is exposed to this extremely common infection. This vaccine is very important—it could potentially save her life!
