Fatality report for the month of February.
Department of Public Safety officials report 35 fatalities in February 2014 compared to 33 in the same month last year.
Three pedestrians died in crashes during the month of February. The highest daily fatality numbers include nine deaths on Sundays, dropping to eight on Fridays. There were seven days in the month of February the Department of Public Safety reported no fatalities.
Three of the fatality crashes were alcohol-related. Thirty of the fatality victims were Oklahoma residents and five nonresidents. There were 20 male, 14 female victims with one unknown gender reported.
Eight of the fatality victims were under the age of 20. The 31 – 40 and 51 – 60 year-old age group led the fatality count with seven.
Oklahoma County led the state with a fatality count of six, followed by Bryan and Lincoln Counties with three fatalities.
The highest number of fatalities occurred on State Highways and US Highways with 11. There were six fatalities on Interstate Highways.
Thirty-seven percent of those who died in traffic collisions were not wearing safety belts at the time of the crash.
