Mildred Elizabeth (Moore) Bernard-Van Horn passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Wood Manor Nursing Center in Claremore. She was 94 years of age. The second of nine children born to Joseph McKinley and Millie May (Tracy) Moore in Windsor, Missouri, on January 9, 1920. Mildred married Leo C. Bernard on January 7, 1938 at Independence, MO. They had three sons, Leo S. Bernard, Joseph Leroy Bernard (deceased) and Charles L. Bernard.
She is survived by family members – Leo S. Bernard and wife Helen of Oklahoma City, OK; Charles L. Bernard and wife Marion of Collinsville, OK, step-son, Ronald Van Horn and wife Margaret of O’Fallon, Ilinois, and sister Jolene Stone of California. Also surviving are grandchildren – Rebecca (Bernard) Smith, Shannon (Bernard) Libby and husband Terry of Oklahoma City; Joseph Darrel Bernard, Laura (Bernard) McDermott, both of Cleveland, Ohio; David Bernard and wife Sharon of Nellysfor, VA, Karen (Bernard) Ryden and husband Maxwell of Owasso, OK, Lisa (Bernard) Vassmer and husband Benjamin of Newcastle, OK; great grandchildren Hannah Ryden, Weston Ryden, Iain Bernard, Caitlin Bernard, Cheyenne Vassmer, Ethan Vassmer, Christopher J. Smith, Michael Shane Smith, Devin Hodgins, Deseree Bernard (deceased), Cassie Bernard, Jamie Bernard and Laura McDermott. Mildred was preceded in death by husband’s: Leo C. Bernard, John Randall, Millard D. Harris, William B. Van Horn, as well as seven siblings.
There will be a gathering of family and friends Friday evening, April 18, 2014 from 2- 5pm at Mowery Funeral Service, Owasso. Private burial will take place Tuesday, April 22, 2014 in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at St. Louis, Missouri.
