Department of Public Safety officials report 43 fatalities in March 2014 compared to 44 in the same month last year.
During the month of March there were two motorcyclists and three pedestrians who died in crashes.. The highest daily fatality numbers include nine deaths on Sundays, dropping to seven on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. There were nine days in the month of March the Department of Public Safety reported no fatalities.
Five of the fatality crashes were alcohol-related. Thirty-eight of the fatality victims were Oklahoma residents and five nonresidents. There were 32 male, ten female victims with one unknown gender reported.
Eleven of the fatality victims were under the age of 20. The 51 – 60 year-old age group led the fatality count with nine.
Oklahoma County led the state with a fatality count of nine, followed by Tulsa County with four fatalities.
The highest number of fatalities occurred on City Streets with 12. There were 11 fatalities on US Highways.
Fifty-one percent of those who died in traffic collisions were not wearing safety belts at the time of the crash.
